This is an original antique United States Navy recruiting poster created by the celebrated American illustrator Charles Dana Gibson. Gibson is most remembered today as the creator of the Gibson Girl which personified the ideal of feminine beauty in early 20th century America but he also created a handful of WWI recruiting posters.

This poster features the image from a cartoon Gibson created for Life magazine which features a woman literally handing her son over to Uncle Sam with the title “Here he is, Sir.” We need him and you too! The bottom of the poster is overprinted with the address of the United States Recruiting Station at 8th & Broadway in San Diego, California.

This antique original full size poster has been professionally backed to linen with some expert touchup and small repairs as needed including repairs to tears of a few inches at the top center and bottom center of the poster. A faint ink hand stamp with the address of the recruiting station is visible at the bottom of the poster.   The poster displays beautifully and is in very good condition overall.
