This rare vintage original poster was issued during WWII to help recruit essential wartime workers for the Puget Sound Navy Yard. The poster features images of both a man and woman with brief blurbs explaining how they transitioned from civilian life as a housewife and salesman to help the country by working for the Puget Sound Navy Yard. Also featured is a larger image of a US Navy ship firing her guns bracketed by text that reads “MEN and WOMEN WORKERS NEEDED” and “KEEP THE SHIPS FIGHTING!”.

The Puget Sound Navy Yard, located at Bremerton in Washington State near Seattle, was established in 1891 and during WWII functioned as the primary facility for repairing battle damage to ships of the U.S. fleet and allied fleets.  The lower margin indicates this poster was authorized by the United States Civil Service Commission. This poster isn’t dated but was likely issued in 1942 or 1943. 

This vintage original poster shows moderate handling wear including some bumping and edge creasing along the right edge near the bottom and a slight diagonal crease in the margin on the upper right corner.  This poster has no tape or pinholes and was probably never hung up or used.  Overall condition is very good.  This poster displays nicely as is or basic linen backing could get it looking near perfect. This is a rare poster as we trace none at auction and Worldcat only locates a single copy at the University of Washington Libraries.
