This is an original WWII era Civil Defense window card style poster issued for the Clinton neighborhood or Hell’s Kitchen as it is more commonly known on the west side of midtown Manhattan in New York City. This window card is printed one side only on cardstock and issues an urgent plea to “Defend Your Neighborhood” and “Register Now for your war job at Clinton Defense Council 268 West 43rd Street”. The poster lists various war jobs including Air Raid Warden, Nurse’s Aide, City Patrol and more.
A graphic at the center illustrates the area from which residents were being recruited to fill war jobs bound by 59th Street to the North, 42nd Street to the South, 12th Avenue to the West and 5th Avenue to the East. This poster isn’t dated but is most likely early war and was probably issued in 1942. A small Union Made emblem is printed at the bottom center. This vintage original WWII era New York City Civil Defense window card poster shows some toning from age and moderate handling wear including a light vertical crease and a bit of bumping to the upper left hand corner. Overall condition is very good.
