This vintage original WWII poster was created by artist and WPA muralist Xavier Gonzalez and issued by the United States War Production Board in 1942 to help to motivate Americans undertaking essential war work on the home front.   Gonzalez’s poignant image depicts a mother comforting her young son as she looks stunned, worried and lost in thought. On a table before her is a letter from the US Navy and the simple but dreaded words next of kin has been notified. The poster’s title YOUR WORK WILL SAVE LIVES reminded American workers what was at stake and of the importance of their work effort.   Gonzalez’s image proved so effective that it was used again a year later by the U.S. Treasury on posters promoting the sale of bonds during the 4th War Loan campaign.

This lightly used vintage original WWII poster is fully complete and well intact.  The poster shows modest handling and some toning from age and a single pinhole on each corner.  There is small pinhole size puncture in the image area near the upper right hand corner.  Overall condition is very good.
