This is an original antique Cinderella stamp or poster stamp promoting passage of the Woman Suffrage Amendment ballot initiative in New York State in the November 1915 elections. This ballot initiative was Amendment One and read “Shall the proposed amendment to Section One of Article Two of the Constitution, hereinafter designated as Amendment Number One in relation to conferring equal Suffrage upon women be approved?”.
The 19th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution giving women the right to vote nationally was ratified on August 18, 1920. Before the 19th Amendment, there were 54 ballot measures to adopt women's suffrage in 30 states with the measures adopted in 15 states. This 1915 New York ballot measure was defeated. Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania also held women’s suffrage ballot measures in 1915 and all were defeated that year.
Note this is a poster stamp measuring about 2-5/8” x 2” and not an actual poster. Overall condition is excellent for this antique original.
