This beautiful poster was created by the artist Edward Penfield who many consider to be the “Father of the American Poster”. This poster is unique in that it celebrates the huge contribution made by women on the Home Front during the First World War with the slogan “The Girl on the Land Serves the Nation’s Need” and an image in Penfield’s unmistakable style of women working the land. The viewer is invited to apply through the Y.M.C.A. and Penfield’s name is signed in the image in the lower left hand corner.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with expert touch up as needed including repairs to pinholes on the corners and restoration to small amounts of paper loss in the upper and lower margin not affecting the image area. A couple of short tears on the edges without paper loss have been expertly repaired and the original fold lines show slightly. This highly regarded poster is truly among the artistically greatest American propaganda posters of the WWI era.
