This original antique large horizontal format poster was created by the artist Herbet Paus for the United States Food Administration during WWI.  For this poster Paus renders an image of a nurse with an injured soldier and bedraggled war refugees set against and German Cross of Iron all pointing at a quote by American Quaker poet and abolitionist John Greenleaf Whitter which reads “America, the hope of all who suffer – the dread of all who wrong”.   Under the image is printed SAVE FOOD and defeat frightfulness.  The lower margin indicates this poster was printed by The Strobridge Litho. Company of Cincinnati and New York and Paus signs his name in print on the left side of the image.

This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some expert touch up as needed including repair to a couple short tears on the edges.  This poster was issued folded and slight wear on the fold lines was touched up during the linen backing process.  This poster retains strong color and makes a striking impression.  Overall condition is very good.
