This vintage original program from the 1920 Indianapolis 500 auto race. This is the fully complete program of 80 pages including a couple color advertising inserts and the covers measuring about 8.5’ x 11”.
The 1920 Indianapolis 500 was the eighth Indianapolis 500 with the first held in 1911 and no race held in 1917 or 1918 due to World War One. The 1920 Indianapolis 500 was won by Gaston Chevrolet driving a Frontenac race car. The 1920 race was not without drama as Ralph DePalma had a two lap lead when his car failed on lap 187 allowing Chevrolet to take the lead. Chevrolet’s car ran out of gas on lap 197 but he was able to coast to the pits to refuel and held on for a narrow win. Gaston Chevrolet would die tragically at the Beverly Hills Speedway six months later in a crash with Eddie O’Donnell.
This vintage original program from the 1920 race is fully complete and intact with moderate handling wear and some toning from age. The covers show some light creasing and a bit of dust staining on the edges. Pages inside are generally in very good shape with a couple having small corner creases and two pages inside having brief pencil notations relating to the race made by the original owner. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
