This charming poster was created by the artist Peter Irwin Brown and issued by the London, Midland and Scottish Railway to promote travel to England’s picturesque Lake District. Brown’s choice of Grasmere, one of the smaller lakes in the district is a good one. The nearby village of Grasmere is associated with poet William Wadsworth who described it as “…the loveliest spot that man hath found.” The lower part of the poster invites interested people to contact the railway’s office in New York City suggesting the poster was issued for the American market.
This poster has been professionally linen backed with minor restoration and touch up as needed. Overall condition is very good.
