Thomas Joseph Mooney (1882 – 1942) was an American political activist, social reformer and labor leader, who was convicted in a flaw trial in 1918 and sentenced to death by hanging for the 1916 Preparedness Day Bombing in San Francisco. The death sentence was commuted to life in prison but the conviction and imprisionment of Mooney was largely seen as a miscarriage of justice based on falsified evidence and perjured testimony. Campaigns to free Mooney from his wrongful conviction became an international cause célèbre that continued throughout his two decades of incarceration. Mooney served 22 years in prison before being pardoned by California Governor Culbert Olson in 1939.
This window card shows light handling wear and some light bumping to the two lower corners. The window card shows some toning from age and bit of foxing most evident in the lower margin and right side margin. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original Tom Mooney benefit window card poster.
