This is a vintage original gelatin silver glossy double-weight 10.5” x 13.375” portrait gallery photograph of Merle Oberon in ‘Til We Meet Again by noted Hollywood photographer George Hurrell.  This photo has Hurrell’s Warner Brothers handstamp on verso which reads “Photograph By HURRELL Warner Bros. License To Reproduce With Copyright Notice Granted Newspapers, Magazines And Other Periodicals”.   This photo has a caption slip attached to the verso which reads:

Merle Oberon, One Of The Loveliest And Ablest Of The Screen Luminaries, Joins The Warner Forces For “We Shall Meet Again” With George Brent As Her Co-Star. – From: Warner Bros. Studio, Burbank, California

“We Shall Meet Again” was presumably a working title for the 1940 Warner Brothers romance film ‘Til We Meet Again which was directed by Edmund Goulding and Anatole Litvak and starred Oberon and George Brent as star-crossed lovers.

George Hurrell was regarded as the progenitor and master of movie star glamour photography from Hollywood’s Golden Age and this original large format double-weight photo of the beautiful Merle Oberson is a very fine example of his work.   Oberson was born and raised in India to British parents and represented as being of Maroi descent for most of her career.  Her early life in India was rather difficult after her father died in France in 1914 during the First World War.  Oberon made her first films in England and then moved to Hollywood in the 1930s.  Her big break came when she received an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in Samuel Goldwyn’s 1935 The Dark Angel.

This vintage original large format double-weight George Hurrell photograph is in very good condition overall with just light handling wear.   Overall condition is very good.  This photo comes with a protective archival holder and will ship fully insured and very well packed.
