This vintage original poster was created by the prolific American illustrator McClelland Barclay for the US Navy and issued in 1941 to help recruit cadets for naval aviation. Barclay renders an idealized image of a confident looking naval aviator climbing into the cockpit of an airplane on a carrier deck with his resolute binocular holding officer nearby. These were the kind of men needed to serve in naval aviation. The poster’s text reads:
Cadets for Naval Aviation take that something extra…have you got it? Apply nearest U.S. Navy Recruiting Station
This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and was never hung up or used. The poster shows moderate handling wear including bumping along the upper left edge. The poster has a bit of foxing mostly along the lower margin. Overall condition is very good.
