This vintage original window card style poster was issued by the United States Marine Corps during the first year of American involvement in WWII. This is a window card style poster printed one side only on lightweight cardboard measuring about 14” x 11”. For this poster the unknown artist renders an image of a Grumnan F4F Wildcat shooting down two Japanese aircraft over buildings of a traditional Japanese architectural style with Mount Fuji visible in the distance and text that reads “HIT HARD and often – WITH the U.S. MARINES”. The lower margin has a Marine Corps Publicity Bureau document code “MCPB 105578 9-15-42” indicating a September 1942 publication date.
The Grumman F4F Wildcat was the only reliable fighter aircraft available to the United States Marine Corps during the early stages of the War in the Pacific. This vintage original poster was also issued as a full size sheet poster which is rare. The window card format offered here is even rarer as we’ve never had one or even seen one prior this example. This poster is in excellent condition with just light handling wear including a couple tiny surface nicks on the edges. Overall condition is excellent.
