This powerful poster was created by the artist Ben Shahn for the Political Action Committee of the Congress of Industrial Organizations for use in the midterm elections of 1946. The image was based on a photo Shahn had taken of an impoverished Arkansas sharecropper while working as a photographer for the New Deal era Resettlement Administration federal agency in the 1930s.

Shahn has autographed this poster by hand in pencil twice at the bottom of the poster. The poster has been professionally linen backed with minimal touchup as needed. The poster shows the original fold lines and some toning from age. Both the poster and Shahn’s autographs are in very good condition overall.
