This is a vintage original title lobby card for the critically acclaimed 1947 RKO Pictures American crime film noir Crossfire. This film was directed by Edward Dmytryk and starred Robert Young, Robert Mitchum, Robert Ryan, Gloria Grahame, Paul Kelly and Sam Levene. The screenplay was by John Paxton and based on the 1945 novel The Brick Foxhole by Richard Brooks. The film was a critical and commercial success nominated for five Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, and Best Supporting Actor for Ryan.
The film’s plot concerns a murder investigation among a group of United States military personnel just after the end of WWII. Antisemitism is the primary motivating factor in the killing make this film the first American feature film to deal with the topic. The Eli Kazan directed Gentlemen’s Agreement would come out a few months later and also deal with the subject of antisemitism. Shortly after the film’s release, director Edward Dmytryk would be blacklisted as one of the so called Hollywood Ten for refusing to testify before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) investigating communist infiltration into the movie industry. Dmytryk would make a comeback in Hollywood and direct the 1954 Best Picture nominee The Caine Mutiny.
This vintage original title lobby card for the 1947 first American release of Crossfire is free of tape or pinholes and shows only light handling wear including a short tear of less than a half inch on the left border which is confined to the margin and doesn’t extend into the image area. Overall condition is very good.
