This is a vintage original folding map of Phoenix and Central Arizona issued as an advertising piece by the Valley National Bank. This map folds open to about 28.25” x 20.25” and features a pictorial cartoon map drawn by George M. Avey covering most of one side. This delightful map is festooned with caricatures and colorful icons denoting points of interest, attractions and historical sites all around Central Arizona rendered in charming Atomic Age style. Avey also illustrated the cover panels. The cartouche area of the map is titled:
VALLEY OF THE SUN A pictorial Guide of Phoenix and Central Arizona – Drawn For The Valley National Bank By George M. Avey 1947
This vintage original map is folded as issued and shows moderate handling wear and some toning from age. The cover panels have some paper loss from what looks like insect damage but Avey’s large pictorial cartoon map is unaffected. Please see the photos and contact us for more information as needed.
