This fabulous Mid-century travel poster was created for the National Tourist Organization of Greece in 1949 to promote travel to the Greek island of Mykonos. The image depicts one of the island’s iconic windmills, many of which were built by Venetians in the 16th century and remain today as the first thing visitors see when they enter the island’s harbor of Alefkandra. The artist’s name appears in the image but is illegible so we are not sure which of Greece's many talented postwar poster artists created this delightful piece but it really captures the color and vibrancy of this beautiful island. The lower margin indicates “No. 15, 10,000 21/6/49 – Edited By The Tourist Department of Greece” and “Printed In Greece By “The Phoenix” Co. Ltd Athens”
This vintage original poster is very clean, was never hung and has no tape or pinholes. There are two small tears of less than a cm in the margin on the left side not affecting the image and the posters is otherwise in excellent, near perfect condition.
