This vintage original Italian travel poster was created by the artist Virgilio Retrosi and issued by ENIT, the official state tourism authority of Italy, to promote the 1949 International Society of Contemporary Music Festival in Palermo, Sicily. The ISCM is an international music organization founded in 1922 that promotes contemporary classical music chiefly through an annual festival called ISCM World Music Days for which this poster was issued in 1949. Retrosi’s Modernist design shows the title in both English and in Italian as XXIII Festival Internazionale Di Musica Contemporanea – Palermo Taormina 22-30 Aprile 1949. Retrosi’s name in signed in print in the upper right corner and the ENIT logo appears in the lower left corner. The printer’s name appears in the lower right corner as Arti Grafiche I.R.E.S. Palermo.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some minor touch up as needed including expert repair to a couple short tears and small abrasions on the edges. The poster displays beautifully and overall condition is very good.
