This is a vintage original 1950 advertising poster for Miracle Minnow Lures which were manufactured by the Wright & McGill fishing tackle company of Denver, Colorado.  Artwork for the poster was done by the prolific outdoors and wildlife illustrator Lyndle Dunn (1908-1967) whose name is signed in print in the lower left corner of the image area.  Also printed in the lower left corner is a 1950 copyright by the Wright & McGill Company so thus the date.

Dunn’s thrilling image of two men in a wooden rowboat hooking a Largemouth Bass was also used for the for the cover of Wright & McGill fishing tackle catalogs in the early 1950s. The Wright & McGill Company was founded in Denver, Colorado in 1925 and continues in business today with Eagle Claw and other market leading brands of fishing tackle.  Lyndle Dunn grew up in Wyoming where his father worked as a forest ranger and then went on to study art at the Chicago Art Institute and the American Academy of Art in Chicago.  Dunn produced wildlife artwork for State of the Colorado as well as covers for Colorado Outdoors magazine and also provided illustration services for Abercrombie & Fitch, Wright & McGill and other commercial clients.

This poster was originally printed as a sheet and then mounted to a cardboard backing and used as a standee sign.  The original cardboard backing used was acidic and had decayed so the poster sheet was removed from the cardboard and professionally remounted to an archival linen backing with some expert touchup and restoration as needed.  The final result is a truly fantastic piece of Atomic Age advertising for one of America’s most important manufacturers of fishing tackle.  Overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
