This charming Mid-Century travel poster was created by Joseph Binder for United Air Lines to promote Colorado as a travel destination. In Binder’s Modernist reductive design a man in hip waders gamely wields a flyfishing rod as a United Air Lines airliner passes by in the skies above.
Jospeh Binder’s career began making travel posters in his native Austria before emigrating to the United States in 1934. Binder’s highly regarded style achieved worldwide recognition when his now iconic poster designs were selected for promotional use by organizers of the 1939 New York World’s Fair. Following the great success of Binder’s New York World Fair posters his services as graphic designer were eagerly sought by major clients including Fortune magazine, United Airlines, Jantzen Swimwear and the United States Navy among others.
This vintage original poster has been professionally linen backed with some expert touch up as needed. A small half inch piece off the tip of the upper left hand corner has been replaced and some short tears and abrasions along the left edge skillfully repaired. A small spot near the lower righthand corner and a couple small abrasions in the image area have been expertly corrected. The colors are strong and the poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is very good.
