This is a vintage original 1958 United States Office of Civil Defense Mobilization (OCMD) Cold War era advertising sign. This sign is printed one side only on lightweight cardboard in the format that was most commonly used for overhead advertising on streetcars, subways and commuter trains.

This sign was used to promote a booklet titled Facts About Fallout Protection which was published by the OCMD to provide guidance to the American civilian population of what to do in the event of a nuclear attack.   The sign shows a large ominous mushroom cloud rising on the horizon in a red sky over a rural landscape dotted with farm houses.  Text on the poster reads: 

Protect yourself from FALLOUT - Get Free Booklet From Local CIVIL DEFENSE 

The lower right corner indicates a 1958 GPO publication date.  This vintage original Atomic Age sign looks pretty well unused with only light handling wear and a small abrasion on the left edge near the lower corner.  The back of the sign shows a bit of toning from age and couple minor spots not affecting the front side.  Overall condition is very good for this vintage Cold War era original.
