This is a vintage original Atomic Age pictorial cartoon map of the Park Rapids region of north central Minnesota. This is a folding map that folds open to about 26.75” x 22” with the pictorial cartoon map and a chart showing amenities offered at 123 different resorts in the region. Included are whimsical icons and cartoonish caricatures illustrating special features and points of interest in the region.

The cartouche area of the map is titled Cartomap Park Rapids Area in Minnesota with Highways and Historical Data. The cartouche area of the map also indicates a 1948 copyright by the W.A. Fisher Company of Virginia, Minnesota. The cover panels have the logo of the 1958 Minnesota Centennial so I’d date this as the 1958 edition of the map originally issued in 1948. The lower left hand corner has the artist’s which looks like “Poh” Smith.

Lakes featured on this map include Lake Itasca, Lake George, Kabekona Lake, Long Lake, Potato Lake, Big Sand Lake, Bottle Lake, Shell Lake and many others. Towns featured include Laporte, Lake George, Park Rapids, Emmaville, Dorset, Hubbard, Osage, Ponsford, Akeley and more.

This vintage original map is folded as issued and in very good clean condition with modest handling wear and a bit of slight creasing along the right edge. The colors are bold and overall condition is very good. This map would frame up beautifully.
