This is vintage original poster promoting travel to London’s three zoos was created by the artist Bill Leeson and issued by London Transport in 1965. Leeson renders a colorful image of a lion with text that reads:
WE ANIMALS really are well-off in London. Take the London Zoo- smart new Elephant House, brilliant and unconventional new Aviary (not quite finished), classic-of-modern-architecture Penguin Pool, all in the setting of Nash's Regent's Park. Whipsnade's wide open spaces are high on Dunstable Downs - just like home but safer and very much more comfortable. Chessington is more intimate, and caters specially for children. At all three zoos we welcome visitors. They enjoy themselves. And, of course, they interest and amuse us too…Ask for a free 'Know Your Animals' leaflet at any London Transport Enquiry Office
The Snowdon Aviary at London’s main Regent’s Park zoo referenced in the poster’s text was constructed between 1962 and 1964 and opened in 1965. The lower margin indicates this poster was printed by Waterlow & Sons and Leeson’s name appears signed in print in the lower lefthand corner of the image.
This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear including slight creasing and slight bumping on the edges in the spots. The colors are strong and overall condition is very good. Email any questions. Thanks for looking.
