This is a vintage original advertising promotional poster for Johnny Cash’s 1969 live album Johnny Cash at San Quentin. This poster features the same iconic photo of Cash featured on the album cover taken by noted Rock & Roll photographer Jim Marshall. The top of the poster is printed simply with the name JOHNNY CASH and the lower left corner is printed “Columbia Broadcasting System, Inc. – Columbia Special Products”.
Johnny Cash at San Quentin was the 31st overall album and second live album by Cash. The album was recorded live at San Quentin State Prison on February 24, 1969, and released on June 16 of that same year. The album was certified gold on August 12, 1969 and eventually went triple platinum. The album was nominated for a number of Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year and won Best Male Country Vocal Performance for "A Boy Named Sue."
This poster is a vintage original issued to advertise the Johnny Cash at San Quentin album in record stores and for related purposes. This is a rolled poster printed one side only. The poster is free of tape or pinholes and shows moderate handling wear including some toning from age. The poster shows some bumping to the edges mostly along the top and bottom edge, a couple small nicks on the edges and small bit of creasing to the tip of the upper right corner. Overall condition is very good for this vintage original 1969 Columbia Records promotional poster.
