This is a vintage original and rare advertising promotional poster for Buddy Miles’s celebrated 1971 studio album A Message to the People.   This poster features the same artwork as the album cover created by German painter Mati Klarwein whose name is signed in print along the top edge as Abdul Mati.  

Buddy Miles was an American composer, drummer, guitarist, vocalist and producer. He was a founding member of the band Electric Flag and a member of Jimi Hendrix's Band of Gypsys among others. His studio album A Message to the People was released on the Mercury Records label in April of 1971.  Mati Klarwein’s surreal artwork features a psychedelic scene of volcanos and a profile view of Miles breathing a fiery plume containing a writhing mass of naked African American women.   

This poster is a vintage original that would have been used by Mercury Records to advertise the album in record stores and for related promotional purposes.  This poster has been professionally conservation mounted to linen with some expert repair and restoration to shallow paper loss along the bottom edge and to a lesser degree along the top edge.  The poster also shows some repaired tears and creasing in the image area which were addressed during the linen backing process.  The original colors are strongly retained.  Additional photos and a more detailed condition report are available on request.
