This is a complete set of 8 lobby cards for the 1976 first American release of the acclaimed rags to riches independent sports drama film ROCKY.   This film was directed by John G. Avildsen and starred Sylvester Stallone, Carl Weathers, Talia Shire, Burt Young and Burgess Merideth among others.  

As a largely unknown actor at the time Stallone wrote the screenplay in three days and would not allow the film to be made without himself in the lead role even rejecting a six figure offer for the films rights from United Artists.  The movie would go on to achieve great commercial and critical success becoming the highest grossing film of 1976 and earning ten Academy Award nominations including Best Picture for which it won the Oscar.  

This original set of lobby cards from the film’s first American release is fully complete with all eight lobby cards. All lobby cards are free of tape or pinholes and look pretty well unused with just slight handling wear except for lobby card #6 which has a pen mark on the upper left corner and lobby card #5 which has a couple faint scratches. Lobby card #2 has a number written on the back lightly in pen and all others are in excellent, near mint condition.
