This vintage original poster was created by prolific British poster artist Fred Taylor and issued by the London & North Eastern Railway of England and Scotland to promote Edinburgh as a travel destination. This poster was issued for use in the United States and the lower part of the poster invites interested parties to obtain further information from H.J. Ketcham at the LNER office in New York City. Fred Taylor’s name is signed in the lower right hand corner of the image. This poster isn’t dated but Taylor was actively producing posters for the LNER from around 1908 to the 1940s and we believe this one is from the middle part of his career, probably around 1930 or so.
This vintage original poster is on an older linen backing. The poster has a small metal grommet on each of the upper corners and the poster has been trimmed slightly on the edges just touching the very bottom of the text on the lower edge. The poster has pinholes on the lower corners, bumped edges and some short tears on the edges and small creases in the image area. This poster could be rebacked to fresh linen and touched up for improved appearances or displayed as is.
