This beautiful poster was created by Benjamin Blessum for the Norwegian State Railways to promote summer travel and tourism in Norway. A large cruise ship is dwarfed by mountains as it passes through one of Norway’s many spectacular and breathtaking fjords. Blessum was born in Norway and immigrated to the United States as a child where he attended the Art Institute of Chicago and later worked as a commercial artist for the Chicago Tribune newspaper. Blessum never lost his love for his native Norway and produced several beautiful posters for the Norwegian State Railways while also working as that company’s representative in New York City during the 1920s and 1930s.
The lower margin indicates this poster was printed in Norway by A. Worner Litho of Oslo for the Norwegian State Railways. This vintage original poster has been professionally backed to linen. The poster shows some toning on the margins and expert repair has restored a small notch off the edge on the left side. There is a faint travel agent ink stamp visible at the bottom of the poster. A couple short tears and small creases have been professionally mitigated and overall condition is very good for this vintage original.
