This is a vintage original window card style point-of-sale advertising sign or poster for Slick Black hair color and straightener issued by the Valmor Products Company of Chicago. This window card is printed one side only on cardboard and features an image of an African American woman and a can of Slick Black with text that reads SLICK BLACK Colors Gray Hair Black In 1 Minute – Straightens Temporarily – Dresses and Imparts BLACK COLOR to the HAIR.
The Valmor Products Company was founded in Chicago in 1926 by Rose and Morton Neumann and specialized in the manufacture and marketing of beauty and haircare products for an African American audience until the company closed in the 1980s. Noted African American artists Charles C. Dawson and Jay Jackson helped to produce artwork for Valmor’s packaging and advertisements. The Chicago Cultural Center created a retrospective of Jackson and Dawson's work for Valmor in 2015, entitled Love For Sale: the Graphic Art of Valmor Products.
This vintage original window card style poster is clean and in very good condition with just light handling wear and a bit of bumping to the upper left hand corner. Overall condition is very good.
