This vintage original and rare poster for the Pacific International Livestock Exposition was created by the western artist Edward Burns Quigley. The year isn’t given for this poster but the Pacific International Livestock Exposition was held from October 5th to 12th in 1946 so that year seems mostly likely as those October dates are shown on the poster.

Quigley was born in the small farming community of Park River, North Dakota and served in France during WWI. Quigley was educated at the Chicago Art Institute and in 1930 moved to Portland, Oregon where he lived the rest of his life and produced almost all of his output as a professional artist including at least a few posters for the annual Pacific International Livestock Exposition. The poster is signed “QUIG.” In the lower right hand corner of the image and indicates “Lithographed by Bushong & Co., Portland, Oregon”.

This poster has been professionally linen backed. There are a some scattered light stains where it appears water splattered on the poster at one time. The poster has bright colors and displays very nicely. The Oregon Historical Society holds some posters Quigley did for the Pacific International Livestock Exposition and we find no other institutional holdings or auction records for these beautiful posters.
