This is a vintage original poster issued in support of the boycott of non-UFW picked grapes and the Safeway grocery store chain organized by the United Farm Workers in the early 1970s. This poster has graphics of a bunch of grapes with a large red “X” and text that reads BOYCOTT GRAPES BOYCOTT SAFEWAY with an “opeu 29” logo printed in the lower right hand corner. The poster has the San Francisco headquarters phone number for the United Farm Workers.

The year isn’t given but Cesar Chavez and the United Farm Workers organized boycotts against the Safeway grocery store chain for not agreeing to sell only UFW picked grapes exclusively beginning in the late 1960s through at least the mid 1970s.

This is a vintage original used poster possibly carried on the picket line showing pinholes on the corners, slight creasing in spots, a small piece of tape near the upper left hand corner and toning from age. The poster has a couple small spots and a small stain on the right edge just above the Y in Safeway. On a poster like this patina in the form of a little wear is welcome as testimony that this is an original artifact of the struggle.
