This vintage original and rare poster is one of several created by the artist Tom Hoyne for United Airlines in the early 1970s. This poster promotes travel to the “Space City” of Houston, Texas. For this poster Hoyne renders an image of the city’s skyline with the downtown Sam Houston Park and the historic Gazebo and St. John Church located within the park in the foreground. The poster isn’t dated but the largest building in the center of the image is the 50-story One Shell Place which opened in 1971 and is today called 910 Louisiana.
Hoyne created several posters for United Airlines but this seems to be one of the rarer as we find no auction history and Google Lens doesn’t yet locate the image at the time of this listing. This poster isn’t dated but we believe was issued in the early to mid 1970s probably not long after the One Shell Plaza building opened in 1971.
This vintage original poster has no tape or pinholes and looks pretty well unused with just the slightest evidence of handling. The original colors are strongly retained and the poster displays beautifully. Overall condition is excellent for this rare vintage original.
