This delightful pictorial map poster of Hawaii was issued as an advertising piece by the Dole Pineapple Company in 1937. The full title reads “THE DOLE MAP OF THE HAWAIIAN ISLANDS U.S.A. – Being a descriptive portrayal of the history, transportation, industries and geography of the Territory of Hawaii, U.S.A.”.
This poster utilizes a busy and colorful array of icons and caricatures to illustrate Hawaii’s abundant natural resources, historical landmarks and many points of interest. The natural fauna and native fish species of the Hawaiian Archipelago decorate the upper and lower borders and the artist’s signature, Parker Edwards, appears (printed) in the lower right hand corner of the image. The lower left hand margin is printed “Independent Pressroom, Inc. S.F.”
This poster has been professionally linen backed with minimal expert touchup and minor repair as needed including slight trimming to margins. This beautiful poster is a vintage original produced in the 1930s before Hawaii entered the Union as a state.
