This poster depicts U.S. Navy brothers Joseph Eugene Sullivan, Francis Henry Sullivan, Albert Leo Sullivan, Madison Abel Sullivan, and George Thomas Sullivan. On November 13, 1942, they were all crewmembers on the USS Juneau when a Japanese submarine sank their ship. All five brothers lost their lives in the attack.

Although it was proposed after the death of the five Sullivan Brothers, no "Sullivan Act" was ever enacted by Congress related to family members serving together. Similarly, no President has ever issued an executive order forbidding assignment of family members to the same ship/unit.
