This rare British WWI poster was created by Italian artist Rosina Mantovani Gutti and issued in 1917 to help promote the sale of War Savings Certificates in Great Britain. Gutti was an Italian painter best known for her paintings of children and this poster features one of her most famous works titled The Peacemaker. The lower margin is printed Poster No. 41 Issued by the National War Savings Committee, Salisbury Square, E.C. 4 and (3671) Wt. 701/2209 100,000 11/17 Eyre & Spottiswoods, Ltd. (E.1906).
This is an original antique WWI era poster on an older European style linen backing which is cropped closely to the edges of the poster. The poster has pinholes on the corners and shows moderate handing wear including a few small chips and nicks along the upper and lower edges and some toning from age. The poster still displays nicely and overall condition is very good.
