This vintage original poster was created by the artist Casper Emerson and issued in 1917 to help promote the sale of War Savings Stamps. War Savings Stamps could be purchased for small amounts of spare change, saved up and then exchanged for war bonds giving more Americans a way to financially support the war effort. For this poster Emerson renders an image war savings stamps forming an ammunition belt feeding a machine gun operated by American doughboy soldiers with text that reads:
Help Them – Keep Your War Savings PLEDGE – Issued By U.S. Treasury Dept.
The lower margin indicates the maker as the American Lithographic Co. of New York.
This vintage original WWI poster shows moderate handling wear and has short pinhole tears on three of the corners and a single pinhole without tear on the other corner. A couple short tears on the top edge have been stabilized by the application of a few pieces of acid free archival repair tissue to verso. The poster has some slight creasing on the top edge and there is a small two inch piece of an old paper mount affixed to verso near the top edge. The colors retain their original vibrancy and the poster displays nicely. Overall condition is very good.
