This stirring and patriotic antique original WWI poster was issued in support of the Third Liberty Loan which was enacted April 1918. This poster features the image of an immigrant family, apparently Central or Eastern European, looking forward resolutely as if preparing to take the oath of citizenship. An outline of a ship and a large American flag billowing in the wind behind suggests a recent arrival perhaps at Ellis Island.
This poster is one of a few WWI era posters that featured immigrants coming to the United States seeking liberty and the opportunity for a better life as means of patriotic appeal. The Third Liberty Loan Act authorized the US Government to issue $3B in government bonds at an interest rate of 4.5% to help fund the war effort. The lower margin indicates this poster was made by Heywood, Strasser & Voight Litho. Co. of New York.
This antique original poster has been professionally conservation mounted to linen. Pinholes on the corners, a couple short tears on the edges and some creasing in the image area were expertly repaired and mitigated during the linen back process. The original color is retained, the poster displays beautifully and overall condition is very good.
