This vintage original poster was issued to promote the III Olympic Winter Games in Lake Placid, New York held February 4 to 13, 1932. This poster features a large photographic image of a bobsled team whizzing down the Mt. Van Hoevenberg Bobsled Run at Lake Placid along with drawings of other Winter Olympic competitions along the left border. The 1932 Olympic Winter Games were the first winter Olympics held outside if Europe and the first of four held in the United States. Among the organizers that helped secure the games for Lake Placid was Melvil Dewey, inventory of the eponymous Dewey Decimal System. The 1932 games also saw American Eddie Eagan become the first and only competitor to win a gold medal in both the summer and winter Olympics having won the first boxing in the 1920 summer games in Antwerp and the second as a member of the American bobsled team at the 1932 Lake Placid games.
This vintage original poster has been professionally conservation mounted to linen with some minor expert touchups as needed including repair to short tears and small abrasions on the edges. Fold lines show lightly after linen backing. Overall condition is very good for this rare vintage original poster from America’s first Winter Olympics.
