This rare vintage original WWII poster was created by Nebraska born artist John Falter and issued by the U.S. Navy in 1943 to help recruit women to serve in the WAVES. The WAVES were the women’s branch of the United States Naval Reserve with the name an acronym for Women Accepted For Volunteer Emergency Service.
For this poster Falter renders an image of a woman in a WAVES unform standing shoulder to shoulder with a strapping man in a US Navy sailor’s uniform with text that reads On The Same Team Enlist In The WAVES. The date 14 September 1943 is printed in the lower margin and the artist’s name, John Falter USNR, is signed in print in the lower righthand corner of the image area.
This vintage original poster was never used and has no tape or pinholes. The poster shows moderate handling wear including a light vertical crease that runs most of the way through the image area and some bumping along the edges mostly evident on the lower left hand side where a couple short quarter inch edge tears are seen. Overall condition is very good.
