This rare vintage original poster was issued during WWII to help recruit essential wartime workers for the Puget Sound Navy Yard. The poster features a montage of photos of the US Navy Destroyer USS Shaw showing the ship damaged severely in the attack at Pearl Harbor, under repair at the Puget Sound Navy Yard and then back in service at sea. Text on the poster reads in part:

Men and Women Civilian Workers Needed to KEEP THE SHIPS FIGHTING! If You Are Not Now In An Essential War Job WORK AT PUGET SOUND NAVY YARD Information At The Nearest Navy Recruiting Station – Authorized By United States Civil Service Commission

The USS Shaw was struck by several Japanese bombs during the attack on Pearl Harbor. A photo of the ship’s forward magazine igniting and exploding in spectacular fashion became one of the most iconic images of that fateful day at Pearl Harbor in December, 1941. The Puget Sound Navy Yard, located at Bremerton in Washington State near Seattle, functioned as the primary facility for repairing battle damage to ships of the U.S. fleet and allied fleets during WWII. The remarkably fast and efficient repairs that returned the USS Shaw to service became a great morale booster at the Puget Sound Navy Yard and throughout the entire country. The document code printed in the lower righthand corner indicates a July 1943 production date for this rare poster.

This vintage original poster shows moderate handling wear including some bumping and slight creasing on the edges most evident on the right edge near the lower corner and slight creasing in the upper margin. This poster has no tape or pinholes and was probably never hung up or used. Overall condition is very good.
