This is vintage original WWII poster was created by the artist Jon Whitcomb and issued by the Industrial Incentive Division of the United States Navy in 1944. Whitcomb was a prolific magazine illustrator and a veteran of WWII who served as a combat artist for the U.S. Navy who also created a number of posters for the war effort.
This poster is a great example of Whitcomb’s work which typically featured idealized views of American life. For this poster Whitcomb renders a folksy image of a strapping young Navy sailor enthusiastically shaking hands with an older gentleman factory worker as his comely Rosie-the-Riveter coworker flashes an inviting smile. The poster’s simple tagline I’m proud of YOU FOLKS Too! perfectly conveys the inspirational and uplifting message that they needed each other and were all in the war effort together.
This vintage original poster shows light handling wear including slightly bumped edges and a small bit of separation at the intersection of fold lines in spots. There is a bit of toning showing to the back of the poster and a small bit of erasable pencil figuring on the back of the poster which doesn’t show on the front side. The colors remain vibrant, the poster displays beautifully and overall condition is very good.
