This vintage original and charming pictorial map poster of the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus was created for the Wisconsin Alumni Association by Carl Beck and issued in 1951. The cartouche area of the map is printed:
HISTORICAL DECORATIVE MAP THE UNIVERISTY OF WISCONSIN TEACHING – RESEARCH – PUBLIC SERVICE As It Was Mid-Century – Compiled and Planned by Carl Beck – Designed and Executed by Hagstrom Co. New York, Published And Copyrighted (1951) By The Wisconsin Alumni Association
This striking map shows the entirety of the campus from Memorial Library and Memorial Union to Camp Randall Stadium, Babcock Hall and even all the way out to Picnic Point on Lake Mendota. Small vignettes of campus buildings and portraits of notable figures associated with the University form a decorative boarder around the map. A smaller inset map at the bottom center shows “The Proposed New Mall” including the University Library on which construction began in 1950. The map also features an inset historical timeline showing important milestones during the University's first 100 years and another small inset showing the Wisconsin Code of Sportsmanship.
This map was also issued sometime later in a folded version with covers and the map offered here is the never folded poster first edition issued in 1951. This vintage original pictorial map poster is in excellent condition with just the slightest of handling wear.
