This vintage original Japanese poster was issued for the autumn 1959 Sawara Grand Festival in Chiba Prefecture, Japan.  This 300 year old festival is celebrated twice a year, once in July and once in October.  These festivals feature Dashi or towering, intricately carved wooden floats as tall as five meters in height depicting historical and mythological figures. The autumn festival is a agricultural harvest celebration centered on the Suwa Shrine where Takeminakata-no-Mikoto, the god of agriculture, is enshrined.

This vintage original poster has two “34.10.17” ink handstamps at the bottom which indicates the poster was distributed on October 17, 1959 (year 34 of the Shōwa era).  This poster is free or tape and shows light handling wear and light creasing from having been folded originally.  The poster has a pinhole on each corner and a single pinhole at the center of each edge.  Overall condition is very good for this vintage original poster from the 1959 autumn Sawara Grand Festival in Japan.
