This vintage original poster was issued during WWII to help recruit women to serve as SPARS in the United States Coast Guard Women's Reserve. SPAR was an acronym derived from the Coast Guard motto "Semper Paratus - Always Ready". The artist, L.W. Bentley, renders an image of a woman with resolute gaze proudly wearing the SPAR uniform against a background of a large Coast Guard flag billowing in the wind. Text on the poster reads:

Serve With Women’s Reserve – U.S. Coast Guard SPARS – Apply Nearest Office Of Naval Officer Procurement

This vintage original poster was never hung or used and has no tape or pinholes. The poster shows light handling wear including a slight bumping to the edges in places and a small nick off the margin on the top edge not affecting the image area. The colors retain their original vividness and overall condition is very good.
