This colorful vintage original poster was issued by the Mexican Government Tourism Department in the 1950s or early 1960s. The poster features a whimsical Mid-Century style illustration titled Dance of the Chinelos – Cuernavaca, Mor. framed by the titles Fiesta For A Happy New Year and Visit Mexico. The Chinelos are a type of traditional Mexican customed dancers most closely associated with the Mexican state of Morelos. The Chinelos blended indigenous and Catholic traditions and often mocked Europeans and European mannerisms from the Colonial period.

This poster has been professionally linen backed with some expert touch up and repairs to small tears on the margins. A couple small creases in the image area have been skillfully mitigated. The poster retains bold colors and really gives a delightful Mid-Century Modern flourish to one of the beloved traditions of Old Mexico. Overall condition is very good.
