This delightful pictorial map of Guam and the Marianas Islands is a vintage original issued a few years after the end of WWII. This map is folded and was designed as mailer that could be sent home by American military and others visiting Guam in the late 1940s and 1950s.
The entirety of one side features a charming pictorial map of Guam titled The Historical Island of Guam of the Marianis Islands. The other side features a pictorial map of the Marianas Islands including Guam, Saipan, Tinian and Rota along with a map of the Pacific region and the cover panels. This map isn’t dated but the pictorial map of Guam makes reference to the WWII Japanese occupation of Guam ending August 10, 1944. The map also shows the “Pacific Clipper” flying boat airliner which was operated by Pan American Airlines initially and was out of service by 1951. This pictorial map was mailed home and has a United States Navy postmark dated August 1956 but was likely printed closer to 1949 or 1950.
This vintage original pictorial map is folded as issued with some toning from age and moderate handling wear including some wear to the fold lines and small bits of separation on the fold lines at the edges in a couple places. Overall condition is very good.
