This is an original antique Mexican Revolution era broadside published by Blas Vanegas Arroyo in 1921 and illustrated with an engraving created by prolific and highly influential Mexican artist and printmaker Jose Guadalupe Posada. This broadside features four headlines with additional text relating to the headlines at the bottom. The first headline reports, apparently erroneously, that Mexican General Lucio Blanco was captured in Texas. The second headline reports on the robbery, assault and plunder of forces under the command of Guadalupe Sanchez and the third reports that forces under P. Gonzalez (Pablo Gonzales Garza) had invaded national territory and that the Secretary of War ordered that they be strongly crushed. The fourth headline reads Angustiosa Agonia de un Ahorcado which translates to The Anguished Agony of a Hanged Man.
The broadside features descriptive text about these events covering the bottom half and is illustrated with an engraving by Posada a garroting type execution attending by a catholic priest, the Mexican military and a crowd of onlookers. The date “7-28-21” is printed at the top of the masthead on the right side.
This antique original Mexican broadside is printed one side only and shows some toning from age and moderate handling wear including a couple short tears, nicks and slight creasing on the edges in spots. Overall condition is very good.
