This vintage original Cuban political poster supporting the African country of Zimbabwe was created by the artist “Fausto” and issued by OSPAAAL (The Organization of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America) in 1970. OSPAAAL was founded in Havana at the 1966 Tricontinental Conference in Cuba with the stated purpose of promoting the causes of socialism and communism in the Third World.
For this poster Fausto depicts what looks like a large green arrow piercing and English bowler hat. The poster’s title Day Of Solidarity With Zimbabwe (March 17) is printed in Spanish, French and Arabic language along with English so the poster could be used internationally. This poster was issued during the tumultuous period of the Rhodesian Bush War or Zimbabwe War of Independence as it was known in which the last vestiges of white minority rule gave way to universal suffrage and the establishment of Zimbabwe displacing Rhodesia.
The vintage original poster is free of tape and pinholes and in very good condition overall with just light handling wear.
