This original antique recruiting poster was issued by the United Kingdom during the first year of WWI. This poster is on an older linen backing with wooden dowels on the top and bottom edges that appear to be original to when the poster was used originally in 1915. This poster features a large portrait image of Lord Kitchener, War Secretary for the United Kingdom, with text that reads:
LORD KITCHENER SAYS:- 'MEN, MATERIALS AND MONEY ARE THE IMMEDIATE NECESSITIES. DOES THE CALL OF DUTY FIND NO RESPONSE IN YOU UNTIL REINFORCED - LET US SAY RATHER SUPERSEDED - BY THE CALL OF COMPULSION?' LORD KITCHENER. Speaking at Guildhall July 9th 1915 - ENLIST TO-DAY
The lower margin has printing which is covered by the wooden dowel but reads Published By The Parliamentary Recruiting Committee London Poster No. 113. Printed By David Allen and Sons Ld. Harrow, Middlesex. W.6896 60M – 7/15 which we take to indicate a July 1915 publication date.
This original antique poster shows moderate handling wear and some toning from age. The wooden dowels could be removed easily but we haven't tried and are selling the poster as found. Overall condition is very good. Please see our other listings for more British WWI posters from this collection.
