This antique original WWI era poster was created by the artist M. Leone Bracker for the Near East Relief aid organization which sought to provide humanitarian aid and support to refugees in Armenia, Greece, Syria and Persia. Bracker’s image of a young mother cowering with her children against the background of a stonewall and darkness appears under the title HUNGER Knows No Armistice.  Bracker’s name is signed in print in he lower righthand corner of the image along with the date 1919.

This organization was founded in 1915 as the American Committee for Armenian and Syrian Relief and briefly operated briefly under other names before adopting the simpler name Near East Relief in 1919. This organization is still operating today as the Near East Foundation with a greatly increased scope of operations beyond the original mission of helping refugees from Armenia, Greece, Syria and Persia. The lower margin indicates this poster was printed by Alco-Gravure, Inc. of New York and Baltimore.

This antique original poster has been professionally linen backed with basic touchup as needed including expert repair to a tear without loss of paper on both the upper and lower edges. Overall condition is very good for this rare poster.
